Thanks, Jacquelyn, for always having the right thing to say at the right time! This time of year we especially think of peace and hope and you delivered that message beautifully! Many wishes for a happy, healthy, peaceful, hopeful year for all the stepfamilies out there.

Happy Holidays!

Blending Families is HARD! One good tip for the holidays is to set a budget and stick to it. The budget should reflect current debt and monthly financial obligations. Make a list of Holiday expenses including gifts, travel, extra food, entertainment, cards and stamps, and even wrapping paper. Gifts tend to be the biggest expense so check your list and consider no-cost gifts, such as car washing, baby sitting, or mowing lawns and shoveling snow.

It is so easy to be overwhelmed by everything we have going on in our lives. When you add to that the pressures of being a stepmom, it's enough to run your self-esteem right into the ground. (That's how it goes for me, anyway.)

Right now I am once again in that place where I need to step back, think about what is important, what is possible, and what is simply too much. Over the past few weeks, I've pared back activities and tried to focus on things one at a time.

This is a great post. Thanks for the reminder that it's okay to shift goals if needed.

Jacque,

One of the lessons I have learned over the years is that when I say YES to one thing, I say NO to another. We can't possibly do everything in a single day. We can't possibly please every one all of the time.

The one thing I can do is be my authentic self. That's the only person I ever need to be. And those around me know that.

I'm a recovering people pleaser and tomorrow night I'm not going to the company Christmas party because I'm on track to become a first degree black belt and need to be in class (see, I say Yes to thai kickboxing and no to the Christmas party)

In the space of a comment, I gave up what I'm "supposed to do" because that's living by someone else's expectations, and simply decided to be me.

xo

I have a 20 year old stepdaughter who hates me because her mother had been causing problems between us for a year. She was jealous because her daughter & I had a great relationship, hanging out, going shopping and having talks about my stepdaughters problems. I was there for her and her mother didnt like it, so she started harrassing me on the computer. My husband and I ended up having a child together and now his ex & my stepdaughter are saying its not his baby, and my stepdaughter wants nothing at all to do with her brother. I personally think his daughter is jealous because she isnt the only child anymore and our son will have more attention than she did, because my husband was always working when she was growing up. There are several more problems that go along with this, but is way too long to explain or it would be a novel. I can not stand this woman, and the ONLY reason I havent punched her is because my husband would be mad =0).

Do you mind if I add a tip?

Grap a piece of paper and write down everything that's good in your life. All the good stuff - because it's when we focus on the good that we create more of it. What we think about, we bring about, so if you're always focused on the negative - you'll create more of it.

There's a great DVD called "What the Bleep Do We Know" you may want to check it out.
