If your stepchild lives in the same state, do what you can to arrange a time you can spend together. Do something fun, just the two of you. Leave Dad at home. If you’ve got more than one stepchild, take each of them out for a date separately. This does not have to be expensive. You don’t have to buy them anything! It could be a trip to a local art museum on their free nights. You might go hang out at a coffee shop, visit a nearby beach or walk your dog for an hour.
